SPRING TRYOUTS - PLAYER ELIGIBILITY/INVITATION STRUCTURE

 

Spring Hockey Tryouts - Player Eligibility & Invitation Structure

We are committed to providing a high-performance, development-focused spring tryout environment. All Spring Tryout Camps are intentionally designed to be smaller, competitive, and balanced, allowing evaluators to fairly assess players while ensuring a strong on-ice experience.

Each camp will include:

  • On-ice evaluation sessions

  • Off-ice testing components

  • Additional development elements as part of the overall tryout process

Below is a detailed breakdown of eligibility, invitation criteria, and registration structure for each Spring Tryout Camp.


Female Stream Tryouts

U13 AA Female - Central Alberta Twins

  • Open to any eligible U13 female player from the draw zone

U15 AA Female

  • Open to all eligible female players from the draw zone

  • Designed to evaluate and identify athletes for U15 AA female programming.

U18 AAA Female

  • Open to any eligible female player from the province

  • Intended for athletes pursuing high-performance female AAA hockey.

  • Camp structure and roster commitments will be communicated directly to participants.


Mixed / AAA Stream Tryouts

U13 AAA - Mixed Stream

Eligible players include:

  • U13 AAA players

  • U13 AA players

  • U13 A players

  • U11 AA players moving up to U13.

Special Invitations Required

  • Any players outside the categories listed above must receive a special invitation to attend the U13 AAA tryout.

  • Invites will be sent directly to invited players from RDMH.

  • (Please do not contact the office for an invite as players are selected through an evaluation process.)


U15 AAA - Mixed Stream

Invitations will be sent to:

  • Returning U15 AAA players

  • U15 AA players from regional teams within the draw zone

  • U15 A players

  • U13 AAA players moving up

Important Note

  • U15AAA draw zone boundaries for the 2026-2027 season are expected to be announced soon by Hockey Alberta.

  • RDMH will follow the anticipated draw zone structure for the 2026-2027 season.

Special Invitations Required

  • Any players outside the categories listed above must receive a special invitation to attend the U15 AAA tryout.

  • Invites will be sent directly to invited players from RDMH.

  • (Please do not contact the office for an invite as players are selected through an evaluation process.)


U17 AAA (15-Year-Old Development Camp)

This camp is designed specifically for 15-year-old players.

Registration Priority

  1. U15 AAA players

  2. U15 AA players

  3. U15 A players (if space allows)

Camp Limits

  • Maximum of 36 skaters + 4 goaltenders


U18 AAA Programming (Male / Mixed Stream)

The U18 AAA camp is open to:

  • Returning U18AAA players
  • U17 AAA players

  • U18 AA players

  • U16 AA players

  • Exceptional Status U15 AAA players

Exceptional Status - 15-Year-Old Players

  • Select 15-year-old players may be identified for Exceptional Status and invited directly to the U18 AAA Camp.

  • These players will be contacted directly by:

    • Head Coach Bob Rutz, or

    • General Manager Jason Stephens

Special Invitations Required

  • Any players outside the categories listed above must receive a special invitation to attend the U18 AAA tryout.

  • Invites will be sent directly to invited players from RDMH.

  • (Please do not contact the office for an invite as players are selected through an evaluation process.)


Special Registration Requirements

Non-Sanctioned Hockey / Academy Players

  • Any player currently participating in non-sanctioned hockey or registering from an academy program must:

    • Contact GM Jason Stephens

    • Complete and submit an application for review prior to acceptance into any tryout camp.


Final Notes

  • All Spring Tryout Camps will be intentionally limited in size to maintain competitive balance and evaluation integrity.

  • Invitations and registration access may vary by level to ensure fairness and development alignment.

  • Additional details regarding schedules, testing components, and registration timelines will be communicated separately.
