Red Deer Minor Hockey Announces Bob Rutz as Head Coach of U18 AAA Optimist Chiefs
Red Deer Minor Hockey is pleased to announce that Bob Rutz will be the Head Coach of the U18 AAA Optimist Chiefs for the upcoming season. With over 20 years of experience in high-performance coaching, Rutz brings an exceptional track record and a wealth of expertise to lead the team.
Rutz's passion for coaching and player development has been evident throughout his extensive career. He has spent years refining his ability to enhance both individual player skills and team performance, all while creating a positive and growth-oriented environment. His leadership style is built on discipline, accountability, and promoting a "championship" mindset, all of which will be instrumental as he takes the helm of the U18 AAA Optimist Chiefs.
In addition to his wealth of experience in coaching various age groups, Bob has coached at multiple levels, including Junior A, Elite Minor Hockey, and various provincial teams. His coaching journey includes leading successful teams, such as the Red Deer U18 AAA Sutter Fund Chiefs, who earned a Hockey Alberta U18 AAA Female Bronze Medal under his direction. Bob has also been a key part of many championship-winning teams, including a National Championship as an assistant coach with the Bentley Generals.

Rutz’s leadership will be supported by his extensive coaching credentials, which include certifications in Hockey Canada’s High-Performance programs, skills coaching, and a background in sport psychology. He has also served as a mentor and coach for various development programs, which makes him a perfect fit for guiding the next generation of players.
